A Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s disgruntled leader has recently approached the Election Commission of Pakistan, challenging the party’s renewed list of 35 members of the central coordination committee (CCC) that the party submitted at the election commission.Syed Shahid Pasha, who was the MQM-P’s central deputy convener, alleged that the party had unconditionally removed old names from the CCC (commonly known as Rabita Committee) and included new names without conducting proper intra-party polls according to the party constitution.“It is quite unfair and breach of the MQM-P’s constitution and totally challengeable,” Pasha said in a letter written to the ECP, a copy of which is available with The News, asking the commission to takenotice of it.He demanded from the ECP to remove Haider Abbas Rizvi, a dual national, from the CCC and appoint him and Kamran Khan Tessori on the posts of deputy convener and M Kamal Malik as CCC member.Talking to The News, Pasha alleged that he had also been removed from the post of deputy convener through an unlawful way. “The MQM-P adopted a suspicious but a constitutional way to remove Dr Farooq Sattar from the party’s position, but in my case they did not exercise the same regulations,” Pasha told The News.He said that without the approval of the majority of two-thirds members of the CCC, the party could not remove members from the committee. In June 2018, the MQM-P had suspended Pasha’s membership for “violating party discipline” and asked its workers “not to maintain any contact with Pasha untilfurther notice”. Currently, he has been part of Dr Farooq Sattar’s MQM (Organisation Restoration Committee).Commenting on the matter, MQM-P leaders said that Pasha’s membership had been suspended for continuously violating the party’s constitution and its allegations in the letter to the ECP were baseless.
