A woman, who was believed to be suffering from some mental ailment, drowned her minor son and herself in a water tank at a house in Baldia Town on Wednesday, said the Saeedabad police.The investigators said Shazia, 25, got married to Yaqoob around a year and a half ago, and the couple had a six-month-old son named Abdul Haed. Police said they were called in at a house located in the town’s Gulshan-e-Mazdoor locality, adding that the law enforcers and rescue workers arrived on the scene and fished out the two bodies from the water tank. They said the deceased were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi.DSP Shahid Abbas said that after an argument with her husband, Shazia had been staying at her parents’ house. Quoting the woman’s mother and brother, the officer said she had been suffering from a mental illness after her child was born.The DSP said that following a fight with her husband, Shazia arrived at her parents’ home on Tuesday night. He said that after Shazia asked her younger brother to buy some milk, he left the house.“When I returned home, I found the door of the house locked from the inside,” the brother told the police. “My sister had also locked the other residents of the house inside their rooms.” DSP Abbas said that with the help of his neighbours, the brother broke down the door of the house to find his sister and her son drowned in the water tank. Police said that no case has been registered yet, adding that apparently the incident seems a murder-suicide case.
